After upgrading my laptop, I was going to download my favourite Anti Virus Engine, which is free and very well designed, the security essentials from Microsoft.
I went to my Bing toolbar typed ” Microsoft Security Essentials” and was expecting a link at the top straight to Microsoft download web site. Yes , there was a link in the top, but it was not diverting me to MSFT web site. As you can see in the photo, the search result was giving a result on Microsoft Security Essentials 2011 and a web site link which has nothing to do with MSFT :( Of course this “smarties” could not trick me but , I bet there are many End Users who is using Bing search engine who can fall to the trick!
So be careful when you look for something on the net, and always warn your users about it.
I will report this issue to Microsoft Bing Team, which I hope they will take an action against the “sponsored ” link. And yes , I did done a alternative search with google , yahoo etc and the result was not same, which proofs my case, “smarties” aim specially End users who use Microsoft search engine, to find Microsoft Free product.
The real link for download is :
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials
