Cybersecurity World Tour
So, 2024? Absolute madness. I swear, my passport should be framed. Four trips around the world, and honestly, it wasn’t just sipping fancy coffees in airport lounges. It was a deep dive into the weird and wonderful world of cybersecurity, from high-stakes government meetings to rubbing shoulders with hackers at Black Hat.
When Governments and Big Money Get Hacked
First off, let’s talk serious stuff. I found myself in rooms where the stakes were, let’s just say, high. Like, “preventing global chaos” high. I got to contribute to discussions at NATO about fighting cyberterrorism – yeah, the real deal. Then, I was working with folks in the financial sector, trying to keep those digital vaults locked tight against the latest attacks. It’s wild to see how much we rely on these systems, and how vulnerable they can be.
And, of course, government events. Those are always… interesting. Let’s just say I saw firsthand how governments are scrambling to keep up with the ever-evolving threat landscape. It’s a constant game of cat and mouse.
Geeking Out: The Cybersecurity Festival Circuit
Then there were the conferences. Oh man, the conferences.
- Black Hat: Think of it as the Woodstock of hacking. It’s where the best and brightest (and sometimes the most notorious) come to show off their skills. Seriously, mind-blowing stuff.
- Hacker Halted: More hands-on, more practical. Learned some seriously cool techniques there.
- Microsoft Ignite: Got to see where the big tech players are headed. AI and security are definitely the buzzwords.
- Global CIO Summit: Rubbing shoulders with the folks making the big decisions. It’s always good to hear what’s keeping them up at night.
- CISO Summit: Engage with fellow CISOs to exchange knowledge and insights.
- No name events: Sometimes with students, sometimes with chambers of commerce, without big name tags sometimes with 20 people and sometimes over 750 people, with one main agenda: secure against cyber criminals.

From Boardrooms to Backrooms
And in between all that? Customer meetings. All over the place. From huge corporations to smaller outfits, everyone’s dealing with the same basic problem: how to stay safe online. It’s amazing how different the challenges can be depending on the industry and location. And let me tell you, explaining complex cybersecurity concepts to people who just want their emails to work? That’s a skill in itself.
When Hackers Do Good (Sometimes)
But it wasn’t all suits and ties. I also got to be part of some amazing community events. I worked with community leaders on initiatives to educate people about online safety. Seeing how passionate people are about making the internet a better place? That’s what keeps me going.
The Big Takeaway: We’re All In This Together
Honestly, this year has been a wild ride. But here’s the thing: no matter where you are, or what you do, cybersecurity affects you. We’re all connected, and we all have a role to play in keeping things safe.
So, what are your thoughts? What’s keeping you up at night when it comes to cybersecurity? Let’s chat!

Incident Response and Forensics. Why v Is Your Secret We
In today’s cyber threat landscape, incident response (IR) and digital forensics are non-negotiable for any organization. But what if I told you there’s a way to supercharge your IR and forensics capabilities? Enter network observability.
What’s the Big Deal with
Incident Response & Forensics?
Why are the tools secret weapons?
Network TAPs (Test Access Points) and Full Packet Capture (FPC) form the cornerstone of network observability. TAPs provide a non-intrusive, reliable way to access raw network traffic, ensuring no packet is missed or altered. This comprehensive visibility, combined with FPC’s ability to store every packet for later analysis, enables deep insights into network behavior, performance bottlenecks, and security threats.
